Description

Hagi ware belongs to the lineage often referred to as “Ichi-Raku, Ni-Hagi, San-Karatsu.” An old phrase from the Japanese tea world describing three tea wares long associated with matcha culture. Not a strict hierarchy; more an observation about how each responds to tea, to touch, and to time.

The glaze is porous and soft, gradually taking on traces of tea through use and time. The phenomenon has a name: Hagi no Nanabake, "the seven faces of Hagi." This bowl also has a notched foot ring, a detail specific to the Hagi tradition.

The bowl you use for years won't look like the one you bought. That's the point.
