Rooted in Japan’s tea ceremony tradition, this vintage Hagi Ware bowl carries a quiet charm that has long been cherished — known for the phrase “Ichi-Raku, Ni-Hagi, San-Karatsu,” which places Hagi among Japan’s three great tea ceramics.

Its soft glaze and gentle, earthy tones embody the spirit of wabi-sabi — beauty found in quiet change — as the fine kannyū (crackle glaze) gradually deepens in color through use, a transformation known as “Hagi no Nanabake.” The bowl also features a notched foot ring, a distinctive detail often seen in Hagi pieces.

Though the exact kiln is unknown, it holds that distinct balance of calm and character that defines Hagi Ware — refined, yet quietly playful. A timeless bowl that brings a sense of ease to both everyday and ceremonial moments.
